RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW), North America’s leading provider of transit bus and sustainable transportation solutions, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract to refurbish one (1) 2011 35-foot Gillig Low Floor diesel transit bus for the City of McAllen, Texas. The project was awarded through the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) cooperative purchasing contract.

This award builds on CCW’s long-standing relationship with Metro McAllen, following previous successful projects that have supported the agency’s fleet needs. Over the years, CCW has partnered with McAllen, and this project is another piece of established working relationship.

Under the contract, the customer-supplied vehicle will undergo a midlife refurbishment at CCW’s Riverside, California facility. The project is designed to restore performance, improve reliability, and extend the useful life of the bus, helping the agency maximize the value of its existing fleet while maintaining consistent service for the community.

By utilizing the Washington State cooperative contract, the City of McAllen was able to streamline procurement and move forward efficiently while remaining fully compliant with public purchasing requirements. This approach reduces administrative timelines and allows the vehicle to enter production sooner, accelerating its return to revenue service.

Major Scope Highlights Include:

• Installation of a Cummins ReCon diesel engine

• Replacement with a rebuilt Allison transmission

• Full rebuild and testing of the wheelchair ramp system for ADA compliance

• New Altro commercial-grade flooring throughout the passenger and driver areas

• Complete HVAC system service, including rebuilt components and new hoses

“The City of McAllen is committed to providing reliable, accessible, and cost-effective public transportation for our residents,” said City Manager Isaac J. Tawil. “This refurbishment project allows us to extend the life of an existing vehicle while enhancing safety, performance, and rider comfort. Through our continued partnership with Complete Coach Works, we are maximizing our resources and ensuring that Metro McAllen remains a dependable ‘lifeline’ service for the thousands of passengers who rely on it every year.”

“This project reflects the strength of our ongoing partnership with the City of McAllen,” said Shah Remtulla, Regional Sales Manager at Complete Coach Works. “We’ve worked together before, and it’s always rewarding to repurpose a proven platform into a like-new vehicle that delivers stronger performance and added years of service.”

This refurbishment supports McAllen’s ongoing fleet operations by improving performance and extending service life. Once completed, the vehicle will be returned to service ready to meet the demands of daily operations across the region.
