New Study calls for More Electric Buses

New Study calls for More Electric Buses

The results of a recent study, performed by the Union of Concerned Scientists further highlight the environmental benefits of electric-powered buses. Buses powered by electricity are responsible for far fewer carbon emissions than their diesel-powered counterparts. The study found that on average, electric buses produce less than half of the harmful emissions than those of buses powered by diesel or natural gas. The findings appeared to be true even in areas where fossil fuels are used to generate energy for the power grid.

Results like those produced by the Union of Concerned Scientists have increased interest for electric buses by municipalities and transit agencies. The growing demand is beneficial for organizations such as Complete Coach Works (CCW), a bus remanufacturing company based in Riverside, CA. CCW’s eco-friendly option, known as ZEPS (Zero Emissions Propulsion System), was designed to help clients meet the goals of their green initiatives.

CCW takes a simple approach to sustainability by minimizing environmental impact, enhancing its value to its customers and society, and providing sustainable solutions. Adopting the “reduce, reuse, recycle” philosophy, CCW takes previously used, diesel-powered transit buses and remanufactures them into like-new vehicles containing all-electric drivetrain systems.

CCW’s commitment to sustainability has enabled it to assist numerous transit agencies in their pursuit of preserving the planet for future generations. CCW looks forward to helping more agencies go all-electric to save money, save fuel, and save the world.

CCW Completes Retrofit of WSU Buses

CCW Completes Retrofit of WSU Buses

Complete Coach Works (CCW) announced the completion of an electric retrofit project awarded by Weber State University (WSU). The project converts their diesel fuel bus into an all-electric Zero-Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) bus. The transformation included the removal of WSU’s diesel engine power package components and the addition of electric components such as an electric air compressor, power steering pump, and HVAC system.

With the University covering more than 500 acres, the effective management of resources is a top priority. WSU, who converted the lighting in one of their arenas to LED in 2013, can now add the conversion from diesel to a ZEPS bus to their list of environmentally-beneficial accomplishments. “We are very grateful to be part of a historic time for Weber. We hope this conversion will allow the University to further expand their educational programs,” stated Brad Carson, Director of Sales at CCW.

CCW is honored to be a part of WSU’s goal of greater energy efficiency. The ZEPS bus will improve vehicle reliability and significantly reduce fuel costs. These savings will enable the University to allocate more of their budget toward the growth and expansion of its campus.

Twin Transit Electric Bus Demonstration to Give Riders Free Trips Between Twin Cities

An electric bus, provided by Complete Coach Works, will be available for free transit between Centralia and Chehalis on Monday and Tuesday.

Twin Transit is set to demonstrate electric bus technology for free all day on Monday and Tuesday.

“The way the bus is powered is with electric propulsion and not diesel — it’s a more energy-efficient design than traditional buses,” Twin Transit General Manager Derrick Wojcik-Damers said. “We want to get a feel of the public’s reaction. We want the public to be as engaged as much as possible.”

Route 32 will leave the Centralia Train Depot every hour from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The one-hour loop between Centralia and Chehalis includes stops along the Miracle Mile, Sunbird Shopping Center, Walmart and historic downtown Chehalis.

Complete Coach Works will provide the electric transit bus for the demonstration.

The Sunset Empire Transportation District will hold a demonstration of an all-electric bus Monday.

“Technology is rapidly evolving with electric buses and (Sunset Empire) wants to make sure that we continue to look into and evaluate if electric propulsion will work for us going forward,” Jeff Hazen, the district’s executive director, said in a release.

The transportation district will run an electric bus from Complete Coach Works on Route 10 between the Emerald Heights housing complex, Astoria, Warrenton and Hammond.

The public can ride for free starting at 8:51 a.m. and hourly thereafter from the Astoria Transit Center until 3:37 p.m.

“We chose the Route 10 to test performance as there are several hills on that route” Hazen said.
